Referring to the Letter from the Ministry of Human Resources Reference No: KSM/PSM/500-1/3/15(35) dated 15 June 2016, the name of Ledang Industrial Training Institute has been changed to Tangkak Industrial Training Institute in line with the change of Ledang District to Tangkak District through December 2015 Johor Government Gazette.
In 1998, history began with the construction of ILP Tangkak as a technical training institute under the Department of Manpower, Ministry of Human Resources on 50 acres of land near Sagil Town. Built under the 7th Malaysia Plan, ILP Tangkak which was established to formally train technical skills for school leavers and industrial workers had officially started operations on 13 October 2000 with the recruitment of the first trainee on 8 January 2001. The overall expenditure cost including building and equipment was RM170 million.
The opening ceremony of ILP Tangkak was conducted simultaneously through a video conference (Video Conference by the Deputy Prime Minister at the time Dato' Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at ADTEC Shah Alam and completed at ILP Tangkak by Menteri Besar Johor, Dato' Hj Abdul Ghani Othman on 11 January 2003 which on At that time, the Tangkak Industrial Training Institute was known as the Muar Industrial Training Institute.
ILP Tangkak's management has been led by 6 very high-calibre Directors to create a distinguished skills training center.
