15 September 2026 - Alhamdulillah, the Religious Programme: Maghrib Lecture – Baitulmal and Non-Shariah-Compliant Funds was held at Surau Al-Jazari.
This programme was organised by the Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) in collaboration with the Surau Al-Jazari Committee, and was delivered by Ustaz Muhammad Zaki bin Abdul Rahim.
In the sharing session, the speaker elaborated further on Johor Baitulmal, including its sources of income such as zakat, fidyah, lost-and-found property (luqatah), and non-Shariah-compliant wealth.
Several examples of non-Shariah-compliant wealth were also shared, including proceeds from gambling, lottery numbers, and the taking of inheritance without the knowledge or consent of the heirs.
The speaker also explained that money obtained from non-Shariah-compliant sources can be channelled to the Baitulmal to be managed appropriately. The proceeds from this management can then be utilised to provide and develop facilities that benefit society and the general public.
At the end of the lecture, the speaker called upon us to always seek and ensure that our food and sources of sustenance are halal and wholesome. This is because the consequences of consuming or using haram wealth not only affect oneself but can also bring harm to one's family and future generations.
May the knowledge shared serve as a reminder and guide for all of us to be more careful in seeking sustenance and to always ensure our sources of income are within the bounds of what is pleasing to Allah SWT.
